Shop Local. Support Local.
Sustainable, regeneratively grown local, seasonal produce, pastured meats, raw milk, and more. Joining the Co-Op will change your life! Go visit on Wednesdays and get a taste of the good stuff they have to offer. You don't have to be a member to shop there, but you do get a discount if you are!
Coffee with a cause
Til Everyone is Free.
A 2nd Cup was established in 2012 to raise awareness of human trafficking issues in Houston—and to develop resources that help create a second chance for survivors. Just simply buying a cup of coffee here can help change the world. (Also their coffee is fantastic)
Family owned business in the heart of Midtown
Globally Sourced. Locally Crafted.
This urban winery in the middle of Houston is a great spot to dip your toes in the world of wine. It's a casual and unpretentious wine bar where you can absolutely eat drink and be merry. You might even learn a little. Go visit them on a Saturday and enjoy a flight and a pizza! (I strongly recommend a glass of the Godfather or Don Vino and the Hungarian Outlaw)
Houston's largest fine wine retail collection
Your Personal Wine Concierge
AOC Selections is my new favorite place to shop! I came across this jewel once I decided to make it official and go back to school (The Texas Wine School to be precise). If you ever feel overwhelmed trying to buy wine, this is a great place to start. They've already done the hard work of vetting to get to the good stuff so you know you're always going to get quality!
Walking alongside each other
Hospitality. Mutuality. Storytelling. Inclusivity
One of my favorite organizations on the planet. FAM is working for justice by building empowered community. They have amazing programs for women and a farm of peace where they grow fresh produce. The farm is run by resettled refugees, immigrants, and local Houstonians with the hope that this agricultural endeavor will serve as a model for increasing food access and human connection.
Repairing homes devastated by natural disasters
Homes of Hope and Healing
Like many other organizations in the region, churches initially help hundreds of families muck, gut, clean, and sanitize the flooded homes of our neighbors when disasters strike. But who was going to help restore those homes and families to wholeness? If you're interested in helping bring restoration to the housing issues facing Houston, this is a great organization to be involved with.
More centered, more self aware, less reactive
Contemplative Christian Community
The Christian contemplative tradition has been an incredible resource for deepening my own self awareness and for finding meaningful ways to quiet my mind and engage my heart. They are also a great resource for Enneagram work!
Slow food, good food, shared food.
Eating well together
gastrochurch was founded on the supposition that most of our words throughout the day are meaningless. We talk about how bored we are, what's going on with the weather, or what we're watching on netflix. Here there is an invitation to talk about things that matter. It's a place where you can belong before you believe and believe before you belong.
